Xiaomi has launched its latest smartphone, the Redmi Note 14S, in Central and Eastern Europe, marking its arrival in markets such as Czechia and Ukraine. While the device is being marketed as a fresh offering, tech enthusiasts may find its specs and features strikingly familiar. The Redmi Note 14S essentially rebrands the Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G, featuring a minor redesign—specifically a refreshed camera island—while maintaining the same core components. Here’s a closer look at this new release and what it brings to the table.
Despite being marketed as the Redmi Note 14S, the device shares many similarities with the Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G. At its core, the Helio G99 chipset powers the phone, an octa-core processor that has already proven itself in the previous model. Paired with this processor is a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution, offering a smooth and vibrant viewing experience.
On the rear of the device, Xiaomi has retained the impressive 200MP main camera, which was a standout feature of the Redmi Note 13 Pro. While the camera island has been redesigned, it remains the same hardware-wise, offering excellent photography capabilities for users who want high-quality photos without breaking the bank.
One aspect that has raised eyebrows with the release of the Redmi Note 14S is its software. When Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G in early 2024, the device shipped with the already outdated Android 13. Fast forward to the 14S, and Xiaomi has yet to make any clear statement regarding the operating system version. This lack of transparency has sparked suspicions that the phone may still run on HyperOS, a platform that seems to be based on a two-year-old version of Android.
While this may not be a deal-breaker for some, it does bring into question how much Xiaomi is focusing on software innovation with this particular model. It also raises concerns about the phone’s long-term software support, especially when considering that competitors are pushing for more frequent updates to stay ahead in the market.
The Redmi Note 14S comes in three color variants: Blue, Purple, and Black, catering to different aesthetic preferences. In terms of pricing, the phone is available for UAH 10,999 in Ukraine and CZK 5,999 in Czechia, which roughly translates to around $260 or €240 for the 8GB/256GB model.
While the pricing may seem appealing for those looking for a solid mid-range phone, it’s worth considering that the device may not offer enough novelty to justify an upgrade for users of the previous Redmi Note 13 Pro. However, for newcomers to the Redmi Note series or those in the market for a budget-friendly device, the 14S remains an attractive option with solid specs.
The Redmi Note 14S offers a familiar set of features that many Xiaomi fans will appreciate, especially with its large display, powerful camera, and reasonable price. However, the device raises some questions about Xiaomi’s approach to innovation, particularly in the software department. If you're someone who’s already using the Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G, there may not be much to get excited about here, aside from the redesigned camera island.
