In a significant move to enhance telecom services across India, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the state-run telecom operator, is gearing up to launch Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) services nationwide. This strategic expansion will position BSNL alongside leading private players like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, who currently offer this innovative technology across the country.

Expanding Horizons: BSNL's Push for Connectivity

BSNL's decision to introduce Wi-Fi calling comes at a crucial juncture as the telecom giant wraps up its expansive 4G rollout, targeting the completion of 1 lakh sites by June 2025. This development is set to pave the way for not just enhanced 4G services but also a seamless transition to 5G technologies in the near future.

"Wi-Fi calling is a natural extension of the robust 4G network that BSNL is establishing nationwide," remarked a BSNL spokesperson. "We are committed to ensuring that our customers enjoy uninterrupted and superior communication services, especially in areas where network penetration is challenging."

Seamless Integration and Enhanced Customer Experience

BSNL's VoWi-Fi service aims to enhance the user experience by providing seamless connectivity even in the most remote areas. This is particularly significant given that Wi-Fi calling support is now a standard feature in almost every new smartphone. It allows users to make calls over Wi-Fi without needing cellular network coverage, which is ideal for areas with poor mobile signal reception.

"BSNL customers will soon enjoy the freedom of making calls anywhere there is a Wi-Fi network, without the need for a strong cellular signal," added the BSNL representative. "Additionally, our VoLTE services will be activated by default for all 4G customers, removing the need for any manual activation."

A Look to the Future: BSNL's Strategic Advancements

Alongside its Wi-Fi calling service, BSNL is also setting the stage for future advancements. The telecom operator has recently made headlines at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024 by unveiling its intranet fiber TV (IFTV) services, signaling a new era in digital entertainment powered by BSNL's expanding network capabilities.

Moreover, the company has seen a substantial increase in its subscriber base, with approximately 3.6 million new mobile users added between August and October 2024. This growth underscores BSNL's strengthening position in the competitive Indian telecom market, as it continues to innovate and expand its services.

A New Era for BSNL and Indian Telecom

As BSNL moves forward with its plans to roll out VoWi-Fi services, the landscape of Indian telecommunications is set to change dramatically. With BSNL stepping up to offer comparable services as its private counterparts, customers across India can look forward to more choices and improved connectivity solutions in the coming years.

Stay tuned as BSNL leads the charge in transforming India's digital communications framework, ensuring that connectivity is never out of reach, no matter where you are located across the vast landscapes of India.
